2014 PRS Private Stock McCarty Singlecut Paul Reed Smith Private Stock guitars are the pinnacle of guitar building; they are the most expensive and highest quality, and I will say without hesitation that they are the best guitars in the world, no others compare to them. This is already my second PRS Private Stock, and just like the first, I am simply delighted!!! I will say right away that you should not even compare a good American PRS from the Core Models and a PRS Private Stock - these have different wood quality, setup, fine-tuning, subtle details, exclusivity, etc. Therefore, I will compare this Private Stock with my first private stock SC - 2010 PRS Private Stock Singlecut SC 245. Both of these guitars are exclusive and currently cost, if ordered from PRS - from 11 000 $. This singlecut is named after McCarty for a reason - it is perhaps the coolest PRS with the character and look of a 57-59 period Gibson Les Paul, only as if it were more beautiful and better sounding, especially you should not compare them with Gibson Custom Shop R7 R8 R9 reissues - that's not it at all, Gibsons are several heads lower! When I received this guitar, I plugged it into a Soldano stack and was simply stunned by the juicy, tight, "ballsy" sound. I played GNR riffs, Garry Moore solos, even played thrash - with different gain settings - in all styles the guitar behaved very well, even with drop tuning. I also played through a Marshall AFD100 - on this amp the guitar was even more Gibson-like in sound, while retaining its signature expensive PRS overtones. Its overtones are a separate topic - you can savor them like expensive wines, whiskeys... every time you find something new in the sound. The wood resonates infinitely. This, by the way, is one of the features of the most expensive guitars in general - there are special "laboratories" where they select wood for PRS Private Stock based on sustain duration and other things. Manual fine-tuning of each instrument is performed at the factory, and in the end, Paul Reed Smith himself checks and adjusts the instrument, preparing the guitar for sale - say, for the final stage. Inside the guitar is the best shielding, the best high-end quality wires, all the "innards" so to speak are Hi-End. I.e., both inside and outside we get an ideal in EVERYTHING! As we can see, the main differences are that the mahogany is all African Ribbon, Madagascar (!) rosewood - it is available ONLY in PRS Private Stock, all maple is European selected - it is considered the most expensive, more expensive than Canadian, even the neck binding (edge) is made of flamed maple and the truss rod cover as well. The guitar has a 24.5 scale length + Tune-o-Matic and the bridge itself, as on a LP. The guitar is full-weight, without any weight relief. All bird markers on the neck and the eagle on the headstock are made of ivory, the nut is also made of ivory, in general everything is natural and veeery cool! The pickups on the guitar are of vintage type 57/08, 3-way switch, 2 volume, 2 tone, nothing extra! Faded McCarty Burst high gloss nitro finish - as a conclusion of the beauty and exclusivity of the guitar - the flame is deep and simply mesmerizing - this can also be seen in the photos.
