1996 Gibson Les Paul Standard Natural Smart Wood Limited Edition RARE This is the second one I have owned. This one was made as one of the first, if not the first, Smart Wood Standard in the series - in 1996 when the series itself was launched. After studying the series for a long time, I realized that this model has a few differences from the "standard" Standard. First of all, the fretboard is made of Chechen wood, which is also a rosewood, it is also called "Caribbean Rosewood". Many people don't hear the difference from regular rosewood; it is true that it's not that great in terms of sound, but still, like Brazilian rosewood, it is a little more pleasant to the fingers and adds a kind of velvetiness to the sound. Second, no less important, the guitar is made without weight relief (non Weight Relieved & no tummy cut). Also, on the back of the headstock, there is a SmartWood Series mark, just like on Custom Shop models, which gives it uniqueness and collectibility. Otherwise, it is a traditional Gibson Les Paul Standard, which has a one-piece mahogany body with a two-piece maple top, a mahogany neck as well, standard pearloid trapezoid fretboard inlays, Natural Glossy Nitro Finish, 490R & 498T pickups, 24.75 scale. Oh, and the Antique Natural color, which is rare for Standards, and very comfortable tone and volume knobs.
