With a swamp ash body and a 22-fret maple neck with a maple fretboard, the SE Swamp Ash Special has a fresh look and a versatile voice. Previously in the 90s and 2000s, this model was in the Core series, and it is still one of my favorites! Now it is finally in the SE line! The 85/15 "S" pickups are positioned on the sides of the PRS-designed AS-01 Single Coil "S" pickup in the middle position. The AS-01 Single Coil uses both Alnico and steel (hence the name), which gives the pickups mass and helps create a powerful sound. Paired with a push/pull tone control and a 3-way pickup selector switch, this package of pickups and electronics gives musicians plenty of sounds to enjoy, and the addition of the PRS patented tremolo adds a bit more versatility. The overall tone of the PRS SE Swamp Ash Special offers tight lows, bright but mellow highs, and a pleasant snappy tone that can reach "hot country", blues, and even jazz territory.
