2010 PRS Studio 10 TOP Angry Larry NOS New Old Stock Another sweet piece from PRS! I have wanted to try this guitar from the very first editions for a very long time, and I finally found one. I waited, and now I am sharing my impressions. The production line for this guitar was launched at the end of 2010. It is very difficult to find a 2010 Studio, as only a few were released. My specific instrument, in addition to being a special order (more on this later), was made on November 10th — I do not know if it was the first one or not, but it is definitely from the first batch, and what's more, it has been preserved in new condition. It has nothing in common with the 80s Studio, just as it has nothing to do with the Gibson model ))) no, this is not a cheap guitar, and it is not a stripped-down version! It is a separate model in the PRS lineup, which they still produce to this day. It was specifically on this model that they started testing the new V12 finish after the 2010 Experience gathering. Of course, they added the famously acclaimed 57/08 pickups and Narrowfield mini-humbuckers to the guitar. Just like on the McCarty and 305 — on the PRS Studio the body thickness has been increased to 52 mm, but the total weight of the guitar remained 8 pounds (3.6 kg) — perfect! Moving on to the sound… Everyone who has played the 57/08 knows that this sound has a rather vintage character — it is quite transparent with good attack and a punchy midrange — a kind of ideal for those playing rock and blues. The Narrowfields complement the bridge pickup and make the guitar more versatile. This is significantly better and more powerful than single-coils; I would say that on mahogany they resemble the sound of a P-90, a sort of jazz nuance like on a Gibson ES-330… roll off the volume and tone — and you get a Strat! You can also compare them to the mini-humbuckers on vintage Gibson Les Paul Deluxe guitars, there are common notes… by and large, the guitar's sound is similar to vintage Gibsons from the late 50s; the more you turn the knobs and play different melodies — the more you hear it with your own ears. In addition to the 5-way selector for the 3 pickups, the guitar also features a push-pull on the tone knob — coil splits, which also makes the guitar very versatile; you can dial in anything on it. Switching everything is very convenient! The neck is fantastically comfortable, as is access to all the frets. Regarding the wood — it is of very high quality (actually, as with all PRS) — it resonates fantastically; you realize this even without plugging the guitar into an amplifier! The hardware is also, as always, top-notch; the locking tuners hold tuning perfectly, the intonation is spot on… there is nothing to complain about. Visually… Just look at the photos =)) By the way, regarding my instrument, what is its value compared to other Studios? 1. It is a special order, namely… 2. 10-Top Flame Maple (probably the finest and most frequent flame out of all the guitars I have owned, it is simply beautiful) — and the 10-top is indicated in the documents (see photo) 3. PRS Stoptail Bridge — this is a specific special order, since Studios are made with a tremolo by default 4. Tuner buttons are made of Macassar Ebony wood — it is comfortable, pleasant, and looks very expensive 5. The color is absolutely stunning! I was also very pleased with the ebony tuner buttons… the beauty is indescribable in general!!! I was expecting something unusual from such a crazy combination — on one hand, the 57/08 in the bridge with all its delicious vintage sound, on the other hand, the mini-humbuckers that I am used to seeing on ash, and not on mahogany with a maple top. In general, it was at the very least extremely interesting! Actually, expectations were met, the sound I described above… it is gorgeous, versatile. Bluesmen and jazzmen — MUST HAVE!
