History: the Artist series has its roots in 1991, it is something higher in terms of Experience models due to the decoration, but as for the wood and sound – it is all the same essentially – the series is aimed at improving tone, versatility and experiments with sound and wood. The model was made in a limited edition of only 150 guitars for the USA in three colors — Crab Blue, Eriza Verde and Purple Haze. The joints, every detail are polished. I liked the fretboard – it even shines, the color even though it is Purple Hazel is quite dark, if the lighting is poor, you can even think at first that it is Charcoal Burst)) and this delights fans of the latter color, because the Artist 5 was only published in 3 colors and there is no Charcoal among them. Hardware and functionality: gold-plated hardware is very appropriate for this model, and also with PRS Phase III Tuners. By the way, the tuners differ slightly in appearance and functionality from the same ones on other models, they are tighter, more matte and more angular as it seemed to me, quite strict shapes. I think these are exactly the very first interesting and exclusive experiments =) the tuning of course is rock solid... the guitar arrived holding its tuning perfectly, despite the fact that it sailed for a month from another part of the world. Played the tremolo – everything holds the tuning like a Floyd)) a very convenient 5-way switch. Versatility, of course, due to coil splits and the tremolo vibe itself is chic. Convenient volume and tone knobs, everything nearby to suit the hand. The wood itself – the Peruvian neck is quite light and well-resonating, it is praised in this regard, the guitar is quite light, but the sustain is crazy. Sound: The sound is cutting, it very much reminded me of my custom. Even despite the covers on the pickups, the guitar says "hey dude, I was created for the right punchy music, not for mumbling shitty pop". Nobody knows if there is an analog from PRS with PRS Artist V pickups, but everyone, like me, believes that they have a similarity with 59/09 and a little from 57/08 in the neck. BUT! It seemed to me that they are still hotter and more assembled in sound. I would say that the middle predominates, then the low and high frequencies are at the same level. And most of all, I like this middle that is between the mid frequencies and the high ones. I really liked the bridge sound and the neck coil split on overdrive, and the neck, middle and bridge coil split on clean. Still, the guitar is more modern in sound than vintage, but in the neck, 30 percent of vintage is still readable, there is tasty glass and attack due to the ebony fretboard. I would say that a person looking for 70% modern sound and 30% vintage, wants a tremolo on 22 frets, a light and at the same time well-resonating instrument, coil splits and a 5-way switch, the sharp sound of an ebony fretboard, prone to superstrat shapes and predominant mid frequencies, while low and high frequencies are in balance on the same level, and to have exclusivity and crazy beautiful decoration with mother of pearl – PRS Artist V — is the ideal The guitar is absolutely new, so-called Old New Stock!
