2006 PRS Modern Eagle I All Brazilian Rosewood Neck Charcoal Grey Signed By Paul Collectors This guitar is a unique piece. I have had many different PRS guitars through my hands, but I have never encountered a sound like this. I selected two Custom 22s for myself - an Artist Package and a Wood Library - I have written a lot about them in our PRS fan group on VKontakte and on forums - the latter is made with an Indian rosewood neck and a Brazilian rosewood fretboard - they are absolutely different in sound, because the second one has a mahogany neck and an ebony fretboard, as well as non-stock, boutique Motor City Extreme pickups. So, as soon as I received this PRS Modern Eagle, I naturally began comparing it with my two, and to my surprise, the two rosewood necks sounded different... my CU22 turned out to be incredibly smooth and soft, while the Modern Eagle is something of a hooligan with a bit of growl, no, this is not a Gibson tone, and that is the point - the guitar has its own unique sound, 50% of which is made by the ME pickups; they were only installed on this series, later they installed 57/08 or 53/10 - but that is a different sound. The sound of these MEs reminded me of the boutique Motor City pickups with a certain charisma that clearly distinguishes this guitar from all others. This is just a quick word about the sound, hit like a hammer to the head, so to speak. Brief info about the PRS Modern Eagle series from the PRS book: MODERN EAGLE: 2004 - 2007. Carved highly figured maple top, mahogany back, Brazilian rosewood neck and fretboard, 10” radius, 22-fret, ripple abalone bird inlays, Brazilian Rosewood headstock overlay with inlaid Modern Eagle, a new grommet version of the PRS phase II locking tuners, ultra-thin satin nitro-cellulose finish on body with 8 special colors. Regarding the guitar itself - it has not only a unique sound, but also incomparable specifications and collector significance. First and foremost, of course, is the neck, made entirely of Brazilian rosewood. Moreover, on this guitar - it is light, which is encountered much less frequently. Since 2017, Greenpeace activists and other environmental organizations have succeeded in tightening the rules for logging and selling many species of trees in the world - CITIES laws, thereby driving the price of Brazilian rosewood through the roof. So, for example, just the option of ordering a Brazilian rosewood neck in the USA costs over $2000. What does Brazilian rosewood provide? It gives a "piano-like" quality to the sound on clean, truly every note is crystalline while sounding tube-like soft even in the bridge. Brazilian rosewood provides soft shades, a velvety feel. For example, the 59 LP had a Brazilian rosewood fretboard. And, by the way, the neck profile itself with a 10" radius - Wide Fat - also resembles the 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard neck profile. The neck, of course, has eagle inlays on the headstock and birds on the fretboard - made of select natural abalone. As I wrote above, the unique Modern Eagle pickups are only on this series. The guitar body itself is made of South American Mahogany with an east coast maple top - and the top on this series does not look like the usual PRS top - this one starts from small lines and ends in deep wide ones, creating an optical illusion, as if the guitar body has a depression under the neck. It looks very chic and unique. Another feature - coating with a special varnish - ultra-thin satin nitro-cellulose finish - thanks to this coating, the guitar has fantastic resonance and sustain, because the wood breathes better than under lacquer. By the way, this is one of the main features of the ME - I tested it for a long time and in the studio, with light vibrato on overdrive, you can achieve an endless sound, the sustain of the guitar. As soon as I received the guitar - I did not move away from it for 8 hours - I compared it with all my PRSs - I found differences, made notes, so that I could later include them in the description. Just information - out of all my 30+ American PRSs, I have not found a similar one in sound right now. Draw your own conclusions ;) Many on the internet write that PRS Modern Eagle has a vintage tone, I will not agree with this, yes, you can get a tremendously vintage sound on it by removing a little tone, but in the bridge it can also roar like a beast. Yes, you won't play death metal and thrash on it, but alternative, rock, metal fits at a high level, as well as jazz, blues and other music styles. Of course, the coil-tap plays a big role - push-pull on the tone - which gives the instrument versatility! The series was produced for only 3 years, the guitars were made only to order for dealers, in total I think about 100 - maximum 200 guitars were made in different colors, of which a dozen - two Charcoal, and of those only half were made with a fixed bridge, which for me personally is very important in this particular guitar - by the way, the bridge itself is also unique! That is, in essence, there are 5- 10 such guitars in the world with different tops and each will be unique anyway. The cost of the first edition PRS Modern Eagle starts at 6000 $ in the USA - and ends at 16 000 $. And here is his new Private Stock, which they make at the factory The average cost today for such a guitar in completely original and excellent condition is 7-10k in the USA. And prices will rise... The guitar has not only the value of a unique sound, but also collector value, buying it, whether you are a collector or a guitarist, an artist - you are making investments that will bring profit in the future, I think that soon Brazilian rosewood will be banned for sale even in the USA and finding or ordering such a guitar will become impossible, and the price of those that will be on sale - will soar several times. This particular guitar came to me from a collector who almost did not play it, he was the first and only owner of this beauty. The guitar was stored in a case or under glass on the wall. It has been preserved in excellent condition, only after a very thorough inspection did I find a couple of marks that are not visible, but for 10+ years of age this is nonsense. Everything in the guitar is perfect down to the smallest detail, even the Private Stock class case has a special plate indicating that it is a PRS Modern Eagle. Inside everything is upholstered in red velvet, on which an eagle is burning. Everything is true American! The entire package of documents, everything to the last screw is original, the handle of the case is still wrapped in protective foam from the factory. In addition, the guitar is signed by Paul Reed Smith himself during the PRS Experience 2009 exhibition - see the photo of the back of the headstock. I would have kept the guitar for myself, but I have an order for a Private Stock according to my specifications already being made at the factory and also with a Brazilian rosewood neck + two personal customs already, as I wrote above... as one of my relatives says "I would have eaten it myself, but I need money" ))) Whether you are a collector - a must have such a guitar, or an artist, or just a guitarist who has the opportunity to buy this instrument - You will be satisfied. For a collector, the guitar will head the collection and become its pearl, and for an artist and guitarist, the guitar will become the main one both in the studio and on stage.
