Commonly used for blues/country/bluegrass and rock and roll styles, the resonator guitar appeared in the 1930s and quickly became popular by the middle of the century. This instrument is made entirely of mahogany, the fretboard is rosewood, and the bridge base is maple. The metal 'biscuit' inside acts as a volume amplifier and adds a 'metallic tone' to the sound.
