G&L American S-500 Custom Order

American G&L (George Fullerton & Leo Fender) S-500 Custom Order (not to be confused with Korean G&L Tribute models) American G&L S-500, made to special order at the G&L factory in Fullerton, California, in 1995. The instrument was ordered in a special color, essentially two shades of gold, a kind of sunburst transitioning from a more greenish hue in the center to a more yellowish one along the edges. All electronics are original G&L, only the pickups were replaced with Lindy Fralin in the neck and middle, and a "hot" single-coil by Suhr in the bridge. The mini-toggle switch is original (and is present on all S-500 models) and activates the neck pickup. Thus, it can be switched on in any position and even all three pickups can be turned on together! According to the seller (and first owner), at that time, Lindy Fralin pickups (now well-known and loved by many) were just beginning to appear on the market, and Suhr did not even sell their pickups separately at all, so they had to be "begged" directly from the factory. The combination of pickups is, I must say, incredibly successful; as much as I love the musicality of Lindy Fralin and the brightness, clarity, and projection of Suhr pickups – to me, the guitar sounds simply perfect) I am sure that whoever buys it will agree with me completely! Of course, the guitar has no structural or functional defects – everything works like clockwork, and for its age, it looks and has been preserved phenomenally. Anyone who has ever played these guitars, I am sure, will never be indifferent. Because it is into the G&L brand that Leo Fender himself put all his knowledge and experience, and he himself considered these guitars significantly superior in both quality and sound to Fender production. G&L guitars are made in significantly smaller runs, with incredible attention to detail, at the former Fender factory (which now belongs to G&L) in Fullerton, California, and are some of the best American guitars available today. Moreover, a very large part of their production G&L makes exclusively to order or in limited series, and practically every one of their guitars is a real work of art.
