2018 PRS McCarty 594 Artist Package Copperhead 1-Piece Top NEW The guitar is new, from old stock, the last years of Artist Package select wood options. Includes all documents, artist case, adjustment tools. The Artist Package series PRS guitar means hand-selected wood from a separate stock, better than stock instruments. Even more attention to detail, ebony fretboard options, more colors (this one is Copperhead), and of course an Artist Grade Top, which is more beautiful than a 10-top; furthermore, this specific one has a Private Stock quality top made of one piece of maple at an angle with a wide flame. The lightweight ribbon mahogany on the neck and body provides very cool resonance, tight lows due to the Pattern Vintage neck (the most comfortable neck of all existing, in my opinion), and clarity due to the ebony fretboard - all this makes an already wonderful PRS a pinnacle of guitar building. Artist Package guitars always have special overtones and sound not found on stock PRSs, but they also cost more. Weight is ONLY 3.4 kg!!! This model first appeared in the monthly PRS Private Stock 20th Anniversary Guitar of The Month release - the PRS Private Stock McCarty 594 was the February release, and all guitars produced were sold within a day. A little later, PRS decided to add the PRS McCarty 594 model to its product line as a stock model; however, it became one of the most expensive models in the line today, yet it is worth it. The PRS McCarty 594 is primarily aimed at vintage sound and vintage looks; if you want modern, look at other PRS models. Yes, this PRS certainly has its own updated sound, but primarily it is aimed at people who love the vintage old sound of the 50s, only without the hum, woodenness in handling, etc. It is the old sound wrapped like candy in the best wood, the best tops, hardware, etc. It immediately feels natural in the hands with a recognizable sound. Moreover, the guitar has coil-taps for single-coils (push-pull on tone), 2 volume and 2 tone controls like on an LP, and a 3-way toggle switch on the upper bout. Truly a masterful and versatile guitar, and also beautiful and comfortable. What is so new about it? I will name at least 10 of the most important factors of difference from other models: 1) Scale length 24.594” - something between SC and the 25-inch PRS scale length, still comfortable. 2) 58/15 LT pickups. LT stands for Low Turn, which gives the guitar a soft, transparent tone. 3) 2 tone + 2 volume controls provide maximum convenience for regulating volume and tone for each of the two pickups separately. 4) The 3-way toggle switch moved to the upper bout (like on an LP) - for those who are used to the LP switch on top but want a guitar with a superstrat shape. 5) Push-pull on tone - provides coil-taps for single-coils from humbuckers, making the guitar very versatile in sound. 6) New Pattern Vintage neck carve profile has the same width as the Pattern Regular, but is thicker from front to back, it is asymmetrically designed - less massive on the treble side, and meatier on the bass side. It feels like the thickest PRS neck today, and as a logical consequence, this neck has the most sustain. You won't really do shredding on this guitar, but carving out fat notes... that is exactly what it is for. As a fan of thick necks, I declare it one of my favorites today! It is truly a neck "with balls"! 7) Updated Phase III Locking tuners - specifically, tuning adjustment bolts have been added to control the tuners' travel and "glide". 8) Tune-O-Matic (TOM) + Bridge - like on an LP and SC58. 9) Binding on the neck (white edge) 10) A new color palette has been added, and now even more beautiful colors are available. The sound is very transparent, clear, and focused; every note is audible even when playing just a chord. The sustain is just insane! When coil-tapped on clean, you can achieve an aggressive attack; the beautiful funky rhythm won't leave anyone indifferent! Both pickups have no muddiness and have "balls," which is especially evident when playing through Mesa Boogie amplifiers. In the mix with these monsters, these guitars reveal themselves completely across all spectrums. Rock-wise, the guitar also sounds great through a Marshall AFD100. At least I played through these two amplifiers and each opened the guitar up in an interestingly unique way, which means it has its own charm. In general, the 58/15s are currently the most transparent and focused pickups from PRS; they can only be compared to the 57/08 and 59/09, but 58/15s are still more transparent. The switch on the upper bout is very convenient for me, and I am also happy with the humbucker to single-coil splits, 2 volume and tone knobs; at concerts, this is a lifesaver if the amplifier is single-channel. Rolled down the neck volume - and you have a clean, flicked down to the bridge - distortion. And of course, access to the high frets is as always very comfortable.
