The sound is based on 408 pickups to expand the tonal spectrum of the sound. They narrow down unnecessary guitar bass sounds that are unpleasant to the ear (as is known, when mastering guitars, frequencies are often cut) and expand the tonal range of high frequencies, resulting in something between a narrowfield and a humbucker. Paul Reed Smith made these pickups before mass-producing guitars (before 1985) in the early 80s, they give just super brightness, you can really hear acoustic notes, as if with a piezo. A very important point is that the guitar gives 8 sounds - the mini-toggles split the humbuckers into single-coils WITHOUT LOSS OF VOLUME.
