Many guitarists and collectors were waiting for PRS to produce Gibson-style editions, but with PRS quality; many wanted a bridge design that was not just one piece, but two, like on Gibsons - a tune-o-matic. PRS previously released the SC58 model, which became the first model with a 2-piece bridge. The new model features the same 2-piece bridge (a-la tune-o-matic) as on the SC58, but with a 24.594” scale length, as on the MC594 model, incidentally also introduced a bit earlier in mid-2016. The first SC594 was introduced in early December 2016 in the Private Stock Guitar Of The Month November edition, however, it had different wood specifications and, of course, a different price. The PRS SC 594 is primarily focused on a vintage sound with a modern look and high-end details; this PRS certainly has its own updated sound, but first and foremost it is aimed at people who love the vintage old sound of the 50s, only without the hum, the woodiness in convenience, etc. It is the old sound wrapped like a candy in the best wood, best tops, hardware, etc. It immediately feels familiar in the hands with a recognizable sound. Moreover, the guitar has coil-taps for single-coils (push-pull on tone), 2 volumes and 2 tones like on an LP, as well as a 3-way toggle switch on the upper bout. Truly a masterful and versatile guitar, and also beautiful and comfortable. What is so new about it? I will name at least 10 most important factors that distinguish it from other models: 1) 24.594” scale length - something in between the SC and the 25-inch PRS scale, still just as comfortable. 2) 58/15 LT pickups. LT stands for Low Turn, which gives the guitar a soft, transparent tone. 3) 2 tone + 2 volume controls provide maximum convenience for adjusting volume and tone separately for the two pickups. 4) Relocated to the top (like on an LP) 3-way toggle switch - for those used to the LP switch on top 5) Push-pull on tone - splits the humbuckers into single-coils, which makes the guitar very versatile in sound. 6) New Pattern Vintage neck carve profile, has the same width as Pattern Regular, but is thicker from front to back, it is asymmetrically designed - less massive on the treble string side, meatier on the bass side. The instrument follows the shape of the palm, so it immediately fits into the hands. This is the most comfortable neck to date that I have touched, a neck "with balls"! Dozens of guitars sold with this neck confirm the fact that even if you are used to thin necks, this one fits perfectly in the hand!
