Many guitarists and collectors expected Gibson-esque editions from PRS, but with PRS quality; many wanted a bridge design not just as a single piece, but as two pieces, like Gibson's - tune-o-matic. PRS previously released the SC58 model - which became the first model with a 2-piece bridge. The new model features the same 2-piece bridge (a-la tune-o-matic) as on the SC58, but with a 24.594" scale length, as on the MC594 model, which, by the way, was also introduced slightly earlier in mid-2016. The first SC594 was introduced in early December 2016 in the Private Stock Guitar Of The Month November edition, but it had different wood specifications and, of course, a different price. The PRS SC 594 is primarily focused on a vintage sound with a modern appearance and high-end details; this PRS certainly has its own updated sound, but first and foremost it is aimed at people who love the vintage old sound of the 50s, only without the hum, the woodiness in comfort, etc. It is the old sound wrapped like candy in the best wood, the best tops, hardware, etc. It immediately feels familiar in the hands with a recognizable sound. Moreover, the guitar has coil splits (push-pull on the tone), 2 volumes and 2 tones like on a Les Paul, as well as a 3-way toggle switch on the upper bout. Truly a masterful and versatile guitar, and also beautiful and comfortable. What is so new about it? I will name at least 10 of the most important factors distinguishing it from other models: 1) 24.594” scale length - something between an SC and the 25-inch PRS scale, still very comfortable. 2) 58/15 LT pickups. LT stands for low turns, which gives the guitar a soft, transparent tone. 3) 2 tone + 2 volume controls provide maximum convenience for adjusting the volume and tone of the two pickups separately. 4) Relocated (as on a Les Paul) 3-way toggle switch - for those used to the Les Paul switch on top. 5) Push-pull on the tone - provides coil splits for the humbuckers, making the guitar very versatile in sound. 6) New Pattern Vintage neck carve, has the same width as the Pattern Regular, but is thicker from front to back, it is asymmetrically designed - less massive on the thin string side, meatier on the bass side. The instrument follows the shape of the palm, so it fits in the hands immediately. This is the most comfortable neck today that I have felt, a neck "with balls"! Dozens of guitars sold with this neck confirm the fact that even if you are used to thin necks, this one fits the hand perfectly!
