Historic Gear Up for Grabs: Green Day’s Mike Dirnt Launches Reverb Sale Featuring Iconic Dookie and American Idiot Era Basses

Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt has officially announced the launch of an exclusive sale featuring a curated selection of iconic basses, amplifiers, touring apparel, and accessories used across historic tours and studio sessions, available directly through his official Reverb shop.

Among the standout instruments featured in the drop are several burned basses set ablaze during live shows in the late 1990s and early 2000s throughout the Nimrod and Warning album cycles. For Green Day devotees, this marked the legendary era when drummer Tré Cool routinely set his drum kit on fire onstage.

"Tré Cool is our resident pyromaniac," explains Mike Dirnt. "There'd be a 20-foot fire going, and my bass and Tré's kit are burning while Billie Joe Armstrong is playing Good Riddance (Time of Your Life). It was pretty awesome, actually."

Additional high-profile items include two Fender Mike Dirnt Signature Precision Bass models from the American Idiot era, along with one of the very first Ampeg SVT-810 speaker cabinets Mike Dirnt purchased using his initial Green Day paycheck—which saw heavy action on the groundbreaking Dookie world tour.

The auction features an autographed Fender bass used during the recording of Nimrod, an "unintentionally smashed" Gibson Grabber bass, and an early-era Yamaha G100-II amplifier head dating back to the band's formative years.

A vintage 1962 Fender Precision Bass in classic Fiesta Red—once a core component of Mike Dirnt's personal studio collection—is also listed, alongside touring-proven Mesa/Boogie amplifiers and speaker cabinets that logged thousands of miles on the road.

"They're just bulletproof, incredible cabinets. I should probably keep one and use it as a coffee table because they're really cool," Mike Dirnt jokes, "but I could also plug stuff into it at the same time."

Beyond musical gear, Mike Dirnt's official Reverb storefront includes dozens of signature wardrobe pieces that MTV fans will instantly recognize from iconic music videos such as Wake Me Up When September Ends and Oh Yeah!, as well as stage outfits worn during the 21st Century Breakdown, American Idiot, and ¡UNO! tours.

"I've found some amazing guitars and basses over the years," reflects Mike Dirnt. "When you're on tour for a long time, you're always looking for cool gear. You're always thinking about what could be on the next record, or what do I need to play tonight, or what can I find that sparks inspiration."

"Every guitar, every bass, every amp has something different. You pick up a guitar and strum it, and you think, there's songs in this thing and I'm going to extract those songs. Then, once you feel like you've gotten the songs or the recording out of it, it's time to let it go and give it to the next person."
